Step-by-step setup
of TCP/IP protocol, modem and connection to InfoSky for Win XP

Requirements:

- Installed Windows XP

 

Modem Installation

Ti install a modem on your PC, check the manufacturers manual - hardware configuration section.
You should do the following:

- Your PC must be turned off during the installation.
- If you have internal modem with jumpers, set them for Plug and Play for Windows 2000 or Plug and Play for Windows 98 or Windows 95.
- Insert your internal modem in empty slot.
- If you have external modem, connect it to unused COM port (back side of your PC). Make sure that modem is properly connected to PC and plugged in before you turn on your PC.
- Check whether your modem is properly connected to the telephone line.
- Turn on your PC.

Most of new modems is Plug&Play compatible and will install automatically after being connected to PC. However, it is possible that Windows will not recognize older modems and external serial modems. If your modem is not installed automatically, install it with Phone and Modem Options program from Control Panel:

- You must be logged in as administrator or as member of Administrators group to finish this procedure successfully.
- Open Phone and Modem Options program from Control Panel (Start\Control Panel and click on Switch to classic view on the left side)
- Insert dialing information's of your location (country, local area code - without 0, Tone or Pulse dialing) and click OK.
- In Modems tab click Add

Follow the instructions of Install New Mode wizard program.

Note:
- If Install New Modem wizard doesn't detect your modem, run Phone and Modem Options program again, click on Add select Don't Detect my Modem; I will select it it from a list and click Next. Click on Have Disk and specify location of *.inf files (drivers): e.g. a\:
- In Phone and Modem Options program, on Modems tab select modem, click on Properties. On General tab uncheck Wait for dial tone before dialing option in Dial Control section.

 

Installation of TCP/IP protocol

Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol is a group of protocols used for connecting computers and networks design. It is used by all computers on Internet.

Installation procedure:
- Open Networks and
Internet Connections (Start\Control Panel)
- Click on
Internet options and then on Connections. Choose connection and click on Settings, Properties.

Do the following if TCP/IP is not on the list of installed components on General tab (for LAN), or on Networking tab (all other connections):
- Click on Install
- Click on Protocol, and then on Add.
- In Select Network Protocol window click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click OK.
- Make sure that Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) is selected and click OK.

 

Making the connection to InfoSky

- Open Networks and Internet Connections (Start\Control Panel).
- Click on
Network and Internet Connections and then on Internet Options



- On Connections tab click on Add...



- Choose Dial-up to private network and click Next.

- Enter Area code and InfoSky telephone number

- If you use our 041 554 554 number, it is necessary to enter it with 0. In the username field you will enter info, and in password field sky.
- Enter name for this connection e.g. InfoSky.
- Now you are back on Internet Properties window. Choose the connection you have just made and click on Settings.
- Choose Use automatic configuration script and enter:
http://proxy.infosky.net/proxy.pac
- Enter your user name in User name field, and your password in the Password field.
- Click on Properties, and on networking
.
- Choose Use the following DNS servers addresses and fill in the fields as shown on the picture below.


- Click OK few times, untill all windows are closed.
- To connect to Internet click start/connect to and choose the connection you wish to use.

- Welcome to Internet!!! If you have not done it already, start your favorite browser (Netscape or Internet Explorer).
